The 24-acre Tampa Zoo, located within Lowry Park, is beautifully designed with a tropical feel. We enjoyed the many unique tropical flowers planted along the paths and the variety of animals living there.
The zoo began just with animals native to Florida, but then grew and expanded over the years, to include animals from all over the world. With over 1,000 animals in the zoo, there are specific areas dedicated to different parts of the world. There are areas with animals from Asia, Africa, Australia, Florida and an area for Primates.
Our favorite area was the one that housed the many species of primates. We loved watching the monkeys swing to and fro, doing many tricks, and playing with each other. We had to tear ourselves away from the entertaining monkeys and baboons in order to see what else the zoo has to offer.
Some other memorable animals we saw include bears, tigers, giraffes, crocodiles, beautiful flamingos and a huge tank of manatees.
There is a carousel at the zoo and an exciting water slide that ends in a huge splash. The zoo also offers many educational and fun programs, animal encounters and behind-the-scene tours.
