Pikes Place Market:
Seattle, WA

Pikes Place Market, established in 1907 and located in Downtown Seattle, a block or two over from the waterfront area, is a combination of small independent businesses, local farmers, artists, craftspeople. There are over 500 small businesses spread over nine acres.  There are interesting areas to discover and a fun vibe pulsing through the Market.

Some of the highlights we visited were the many souvenir shops, the fish shop where we watched them do their traditional throwing and catching the fish that people order. It was definitely a sight to see.

The Gum Wall, an alleyway in the Market that is covered in chewed gum was really intriguing (and gross!).  It is hard to imagine until you actually see what it looks like to see walls covered from top to bottom with chewed gum.

We enjoyed walking through the stalls with many local artists and craftspeople. There are beautiful pieces of art for sale, we saw a stall with interesting Havdalah candles, and many stalls with fresh flowers grown locally.

I loved the fresh dahlias I purchased at the Market, it added a nice touch to our vacation rental.
