Cascade de Frassenaye:
Val-d’Illiez, Switzerland

The last day of our trip in the French Alps was a rainy one. We decided to drive over the border into Switzerland to see the Cascade de Frassenaye, a waterfall I’d discovered while browsing on Google Maps. The waterfall is in the Champery area. The drive to the waterfall was an experience in and of itself. We were led through magnificent, yet very narrow, mountain roads. We were blown away by the panoramic views of the mountains and valley down below.

We got to the small clearing on the road where we parked our car. We followed the path parallel to the waterfall for a few minutes until we got to a spot where we were able to turn toward the waterfall. The waterfall was magnificent with snowcapped mountains framing the top of it. There were many large rocks we were able to climb on and over until we got right to the bottom of the waterfall drop.

I couldn’t believe that we had such a beautiful waterfall all to ourselves! We were able to wade and play in the cool water until we were afraid the rain would come. We retraced our steps back to the car. We felt like we got a great last licks to our vacation.
