Discovery Park, at 560-acres, is the largest park in Seattle. It is located at the former Fort Lawson and overlooks the beautiful Puget Sound and offers view of the Olympic and Cascade Mountain Ranges in certain areas. The park which includes a playground, sports courts, walking paths, picnic tables and two miles of protected tidal beaches.

When we arrived in the afternoon after visiting the nearby Ballarad Locks and the Fish Ladder we parked by the Visitor’s Center (it was closed.) We followed the beautiful paved path through nature for a couple of minutes until we spotted the basketball and tennis courts. Just after that is the playground. The playground, with what seems to be new equipment, is located in a shady area with trees all around. There are picnic tables and benches and the highlight for our children was the zipline.

Next we drove to the beach area and admired the beautiful views including the West Point Lighthouse. We watched people arrive with their boats to launch into the water.
