I was so excited to discover Little Stony Point Hike and beach area in Cold Spring, NY. The hike is a short loop hike which was perfect for us because when we saw the beach area by the Hudson River and the beautiful mountains framing the river we were content with just sitting at the water for most of our visit.
When we arrived, we parked across the street in the parking lot for the Hudson Highlands hikes. We crossed the street and entered the paved path near the visitor’s center. The path starts off with a bridge that crosses over railroad tracks. Once on the other side of the bridge the pavement ends and we took a right and followed the path. When we arrived at the beach area we just sat and enjoyed the magnificent views while the kids took to drawing in the sand with fallen branches. No swimming is allowed at Little Stony Point.
Eventually we continued on the path following the river. We were intrigued to see an old mine shaft/ cave in the rocks while we were walking. We went on in a little bit to see if it leads anywhere but it seems to end a few feet in.
After our little adventure we continued walking alongside the river until it veered left and took us back to the bridge above the railroad tracks. We waited a few minutes to see a train speeding by (the conductor was nice and beeped for the kids) and then we went back to the car after enjoying a relaxing and enjoyable day.
