Peach picking at Battleview Orchards was the perfect Sunday activity during a visit to the area.
There is something so wholesome and enjoyable in picking fresh juicy fruits off the tree.
Battleview Orchards, is so named due to its close proximity to Monmouth Battlefield State Park. When we pulled up at the address for Battleview Orchards we looked around for the orchard but could not find it. We didn’t realize that the address is for the Country Store. Someone pointed us in the direction of the “Pick Your Own” fields.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff who handed us a basket lined with a paper bag to put our picked peaches and nectarines into. At Battlefield Orchards there is no entrance fee. They charge by the pound. I found their prices were better than in the local grocery stores. We were lucky enough to go with family members that use a lot of peaches so the children got to pick extras.
The peaches were large and ripe while the nectarines were good enough to pick but not as large and ripe as the peaches.
We were enjoying ourselves so much that we kept having to remind ourselves not to pick more than we can cook, bake, or eat. I noticed that there are some recipe ideas posted on Battleview’s website. I guess we are not the only ones picking more than we should!
