The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century sandstone gate and landmark with 12 Doric columns decorated with intricate designed scenes on the walls by the columns. King Friedrich Wilhelm II was behind it being built. It was built between 1788 and 1791. The Quadriga, a chariot pulled by four horses was added to the roof in 1973.

Over the years the Gate was damaged and was then restored.  In 2002 the restoration was completed. The square and the Brandenburg Gate is extremely busy. Tourists flock to the Gate Entertainers and peddlers try to eke out a few Euros from the visitors by offering some toys or doing small performances.

There are many prominent buildings right near the Brandenburg Gate including many foreign embassies and nice hotels.

The Brandenburg Gate is definitely a happening place in Berlin.
