The Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse between Lake Ontario and the Genesse River was built in 1822 and is a Historical Landmark in Rochester. The Lighthouse has a 40 foot tower, a lantern room and museum displays. Children must be over 4 foot tall to visit.
The lighthouse is only open Fridays through Sundays. We did not make it to the lighthouse on those days so we only visited the exterior.
Outside on the beautifully landscaped lawn are sign posts with lots of information about the lighthouse’s historical during the War of 1812. There are also a few picnic tables outside the lighthouse.
