Châtel, France

Lac de Vonnes is a magnificent manmade lake located right in Chatel. The lake is framed with scenic mountains all around. The water fountain, actually a spring, in the center of the lake reaches 40 meters high and adds an extra touch to the lake. The original lake was created in 1974 and every year there are improvements made so that visitors can enjoy the lake and the surrounding activities.

There is a paved walking path surrounding the lake with many benches along the way and some areas have wooden tanning chairs to lie on and enjoy the sun. There is a 180m-long pedestrian bridge going through one side of the lake and a pier on the other side. There are gazebos with picnic tables and we enjoyed a picnic one evening under the gazebo and the children were able to run and play in the playground nearby. The playground is brand new with fun play equipment. The kids especially enjoyed the zipline.

Stand up Paddle boats can be rented by the hour and can be enjoyed on the scenic lake. Life jackets are mandatory and are supplied with the boat rental. They also rent cute paddle horses for little kids to ride around the lake.

The lake is beautifully maintained and is a relaxing place to visit.
