I’m on a constant lookout for quiet yet pretty outdoor spots that are not overcrowded in which I can breathe fresh air and enjoy nature during the Covid19 pandemic, without compromising on the safety of ourselves and everyone else.

At first our plan was to visit Croton Point Park. When we arrived we were told that the park was too full to allow new people in. I looked on my map for another option nearby and came across Oscawana Park. The park itself seems to center around a lake and the beautiful Furnace Brook which we passed on our drive down to Oscawana Island. I believe there are some hiking paths in the Park but the area has an overgrown feel.

Oscawana Island Nature Preserve is a peaceful haven where you can enjoy nature. We walked up the path after entering the Preserve and made a right when the path split. Right off to the side was a picnic table and a bench facing the water and tidal marsh. We mostly sat enjoyed the view and ate supper.

When we headed back to the main path where we turned left we continued straight ahead instead of going back to the parking lot. The path is uphill and passes over train tracks, running mostly through a wooded area and then ends down at the Hudson River. We did not take the path until the end but turned around part of the way through, as it was getting late. The entire trail is a short hike.

As we were leaving, the sun began to set and we enjoyed the breathtaking views before leaving the park.
