The Rocky Mountain Coaster is one of North America’s longest Alpine Coasters. The 5,800 foot mountain coaster allows you to race down at up to 25 miles per hour while descending 430 vertical feet on an average grade of 10.9%. The coaster takes you through a forest area with views of the surrounding mountains in the distance. The best part is that unlike other mountain coasters in the area the Rocky Mountain Coaster is long enough to really enjoy the trip without feeling like the ride is over before we even started. The best part was that there wasn’t even a wait to ride this popular mountain coaster even though the Rocky Mountain Coaster is a popular place to stop while biking on the Vail Pass.
I was surprised to discover that tickets for the Rocky Mountain Coaster are very reasonable. One ride on the coaster is only $25. Although face masks are required due to Covid19, while on the ride it is not required (before and after it is required). Drivers must be 9 years old and at least 52”. Children ages 3-8 between 36” and 52” tall can ride free with a paying adult (Driver must be at least 16 years old and the max combined weight is 300 lbs.) The coaster can be enjoyed all year round, it is open both in the winter and in the summer
In addition to the coaster there is also a scenic chairlift, hiking paths, bike rentals and bumper boats in the West Lake. There are great options for day passes including multiple activities with each.
