There were scattered showers on the forecast the day we went to Whiteface Mountain. Although it was not raining when we arrived, the gondolas were on hold because there was lightning in the area. This was reassuring. We felt like if it would be dangerous at any point in the day, they’d let us know. We left the mountain and returned an hour and a half later. In our absence, the Cloudsplitter resumed and we took the amazing scenic ride up the mountain.
The fifteen minute ride in the eight passenger gondola was unbelievable, we just kept going higher and higher. The view of the mountains, rivers and forests was breathtaking!
At the top is Little Whiteface. There is an observation deck, picnic area, hiking trails and of course magnificent views of the surrounding areas. When we arrived at the top the weather was clear with just some clouds over the summit. We made it back down just before it started raining again.
Down at the base there is a café, wine bar and gift shop. There are also inflatables and bungee jumping for kids at an additional charge.
