Rock City Garden is located on one of the sides of Lookout Mountain. Although Lookout Mountain is located in Tennessee, a part of it, the part that houses Rock City Gardens, is actually located in Georgia.
As we were driving up to Rock City Gardens our cell phones kept jumping between the two time zones. It was an interesting experience to be between time zones.
Rock City Garden is a fascinating place for all ages. It is a haven of natural beauty with 4,100 feet worth of walking paths winding through lush gardens, through rock formations and caves with spots opening up to vistas of scenery with a view of up to seven states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Within the garden there are 7 unique art installations which add a dimension to the areas they are placed in. My favorite is Ibsen the Troll placed in a bent over position at a corner of a large rock formation. It looks as if the troll is carrying the mountain on it’s back.
Rock City offers a mixture of natural beauty and man-made enhancements. Lovers Leap is a popular spot to admire the magnificent views. My favorite is the large waterfall, High Falls, cascading down the side of mountain. The 180 foot Swing-a-Long Bridge is thrilling to cross. The views of the Chattanooga Valley below are beautiful.
Fairyland Caverns, located within a cave is a truly unique display of animated story book scenes and Mother Goose Village makes scenes from Mother Goose Rhymes come to life.
