Cave of the Winds:
Niagara Falls, NY

Please note: Both the Canadian and American Niagara Falls posts are listed both in New York and Canada. Please make sure to check if the place you would like to visit is in the country in which you are located.

Cave of the Winds is my favorite Niagara attraction. It is the closest access to the falls and feels like you are practically under the falls from all the water spraying. No worries! Before entering the Cave of the Winds, visitors are given ponchos and sandals so that their clothes and shoes don’t get soaked through and through.

The Hurricane Deck is by far the most awesome part of the wooden “porches”. It is within a few feet of the bridal falls. You get to feel a small amount of the power of the falls. I’ve been to Niagara Falls many times and Cave of the Winds is one attraction I can visit again and again.

There were some additions and changes done to the Cave of the Winds. The porches were extended so that you can get as close as 7 feet to the falls. There is The World Changed Here Pavilion, a new multimedia experience open year-round about the history of the Niagara Falls. In addition, there are no long waits to visit the Cave of the Winds. Tickets are timed and can only be purchased in person at the park. It is best to arrive early to book your time so that you don’t need to wait long.

In the fall, the walkways and decks of the Cave of the Winds are removed to be protected from the ice of the harsh Niagara winters. They are refinished and sealed and then rebuilt for the summer. During the fall there are abbreviated tours offered, The Cave of the Winds Gorge Trip and the World Changed Here Pavilion is open all year round, even when the Cave of the Winds Trip is not open.
