City Park in New Orleans consists of 1,300 acres of nature and fun for all ages. There are three playgrounds as well as two lakes and pathways throughout the entire park. The park is designed beautifully with all kinds of trees, flowers and areas to sit and enjoy. Even just walking around and enjoying the beautiful landscaping and design is worthwhile.
The park houses many popular attractions as well, some of which charge admission/rental fees. One example is the Big Wheels boat and bike rental at the Big Lake. They rent out swan shaped paddle boats and surrey bikes for up to six riders. The New Orleans Botanical Gardens with the miniature train garden is part of City Park. The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden is a large garden with paths and water running through it with many interesting sculptures spread about. There is no admission fee for visiting the Sculpture Garden. Storyland features life-size storybook characters and scenes. Carousel Gardens Amusement Park adjacent to Storyland was closed when we visited. We got a glimpse through the gates of the 18 children’s rides in the park. City Putt mini golf and Louisiana Children’s Museum (which we did not have enough time to visit) are also on City Park’s grounds.
There is so much to do at City Park that multiple visits are needed to cover all parts. People spanning all ages and with a variety of interests all would find what to enjoy at City Park.
