Located just 10 minutes down the road from the Indian Canyons, is the world’s first Cactarium, the Moorten Botanical Gardens and Cactarium. The garden was created by Patricia and Chester also known as “Cactus Slim” Moorten and has been delighting Palm Springs visitors for more than 60 years. There are over 3,000 desert cacti displayed within the garden. The plants are grouped by the geographic regions they originate from.
The many Cacti grow both outdoors and in greenhouses. Hummingbirds can be seen enjoying the nectar of flowers in the garden. Today a son of Patricia and Chester, Cark Mooten takes care of the plants and runs the garden. Many unusual botanical specimens are for sale for visitors to take home some of the beautiful plants found in the garden.
