The mystical city of Safed has many old synagogues in the Old City. Walk through the Old City, feel the unique flavor of Safed and stop by some of the famous synagogues. The most popular synagogue is the Ashkenazi HaAri Synagogue, the synagogue of the famous Kabbalistic scholar, the Ari.
The Abuhov Synagogue had three holy arks, one of which hosts a Torah Scroll from the Middle Ages. The Avrutch Synagogue, decorated gaily is enjoyable to view. The Yosef Cairo Synagogue has the famous Shulchan Aruch, which dates back to the middle ages.
The Alsheich Synagogue, still intact from the 16th century. It is generally closed to the public but can be viewed during Shabbat and evening prayers.
There are a couple of other Synagogues that I did not get to visit but should be nice.
