Hundreds of thousands of people flock to the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and his son Elazar. Reb Shimon is famous for writing the Zohar and many people come to pray at the grave of the holy sage. Lag Baomer is known to be an auspicious time to pray there and the area fills with swarms of people and many tell of the great miracles that happened to them after praying there.
After praying at the grave, we continued on and drove up Mount Meron. At over 4,000 feet, it is the tallest mountain that is fully within the borders of Israel. At the top of the mountain just off the parking lot is a path with an easy loop hike with the most magnificent sweeping views of the surrounding areas.
