Village des Chèvres:
Montriond, France

Village des chèvres, or the “Village of Goats”, located in the Village of Lindarets between Montriond and Avoriaz is a fun place to visit (as long as you are not afraid of goats).

We took three chair lifts, one after another, from Pre la Joux. It didn’t take us very long, perhaps a half hour, to get to the area while enjoying the views on the chairlifts. Interestingly, to drive to the village it would take an hour.

We took the cute train from near the chairlift to the Goat Village.

As we approached Goat Village we were greeted by goats all around. Throughout the summer the goats roam around the square and the surrounding shops. There are a variety of restaurants and gift shops in Goat Village housed in alpine chalets where the shepherds and their families used to live.

We saw how many people were feeding goats from small paper bags of food purchased from the shops. We quickly got our own goat food to be able to enjoy feeding the goats. We soon had lots of goats surrounding us and trying to get a share of the food. The goats would sometimes get a bit aggressive but in general it was fun feeding and playing with them.

As we were looking around at the many souvenirs in a shop we were surprised to find a goat had snuck in and was standing near us. About forty goats roam around the shops and alleys and often follow people around to try and find food.

Behind the restaurants and gift shops is a new goat themed wooden playground with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains nearby.
