Most of Biscayne National Park is made up of coral reefs, underwater marine ecosystems, and islands in the north part of the Florida Keys. Biscayne National Park’s 173,000 acres is made up of 95% water and the Islands cannot be accessed by car, only by boat.

There are a variety of guided tours and activities offered at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center. They offer guided boat tours, Snorkeling and Diving Tours, Canoeing, and Kayaking. We visited the park the last day we were in the area. We did not book any tours in advance since we were pressed for time. We would love to go back and tour this unique park under water.

We visited the beautiful visitors center (although the Museum was closed at the time of our visit) and followed the 0.8 mile round trip walk along the Convoy Point Jetty Trail which extends into the water first with a boardwalk and then a walking path between the Mangrove trees.

The water is very clear and we got to see some beautiful fish and manatees passing by. We enjoyed the 10 stations with information and images posted along the way. When we got to the end of the path we turned around and made our way back to the Visitors Center. We kept stopping to see the many schools of fish in the water, eels swimming around and some really cool looking Iguanas near the trees.

Our visit to the park was a relaxing trip to enjoy nature in its pure form.
