Maid of the Mist and Observation Tower:
Niagara Falls, NY

Please note: Both the Canadian and American Niagara Falls posts are listed both in New York and Canada. Please make sure to check if the place you would like to visit is in the country in which you are located.

A close up boat ride to the Horseshoe Falls is one of the must do’s at Niagara Falls. If you are on the American side you don’t need to cross over to Canada. The Maid of the Mist located on the American side goes right up to the Canadian Falls. If you are on the Canadian side there is the Hornblower boat that takes the same route as the Maid of the Mist to the Horseshoe Falls.

The Maid of the Mist passes right in front of the American Falls and past the Cave of the Winds and then continues to the Horseshoe Falls. Visitors get a close up view of both the American and Horseshoe Falls. The boat feels almost like it is beneath the Falls. It is almost impossible to see or hear anything with the deafening roar and heavy mist. The 20 minute boat ride, there and back, is incredible! It is impossible to stay dry when so close to the Falls therefore before embarking on the ferry all visitors receive a plastic rain coat.

Even though the Maid of the Mist is a very popular attraction the waiting time is generally not long, since boats depart every 15 minutes.

The Maid of the Mist comes with a bonus entry to the Niagara Falls Observation Tower. The Tower juts out over the River and offers panoramic views of both falls and the surrounding landscape. In addition, once visitors disembark, there is a pathway to enjoy leading up close to the American Falls (on the opposite side of the Cave of the Winds).
